"Death came for mother faster then she could ever know. I've always felt it would come for me, at speed, from nowhere. When I saw the horses, father, I was prepared, but I wasn't afraid. Besides, I had faith you'd come for me. And I was right."
—Stiorra to Uhtred after Cenric and his men came to Saltwic[src]

Season 4[]

Saltwic, Mercia; Uhtred, Æthelflæd, Young Uhtred, Finan, Osferth, and Sihtric arrive at Æthelflæd’s Mercian estate. Uhtred has come to take Stiorra home. After letting the party inside the estate, Æthelflæd asks where is her daughter, and Ælfwynn rushes into her arms. Æthelstan has been held up with them as well. Aldhelm arrives shortly after to report that Æthelred is fatally injured and he may not last a week. After Æthelflæd and Aldhelm leave, Uhtred then tells Stiorra to take the children and secure them. She questions how much longer she’ll have to be a prisoner, as she leads Ælfwynn and Æthelstan into the other room. ("Episode 4.5")

In the estate, Young Untred and Stiorra are enjoying the peace and quiet, Stiorra questions Young Uhtred if Bebbanburg was as impressive as they were told it was as children. Young Uhtred replies that it was more so and harder to attack. He doubts he’ll ever see it again in their lifetime. Stiorra spots riders in the distance and orders for Ælfwynn to come inside. She tells Æthelstan to follow her, and then reports to Finan, Osferth, and Sihtric of the incoming riders. Once she sees that they are ready to fight she stops them and tells them that she has a plan. ("Episode 4.5")

Stiorra opens the front gate and asks Cenric and his men if they are lost. They’ve come to take Ælfwynn to Aegelesburg. Ælfwynn claims that she’s already been taken to Winchester by Uhtred. Centric isn’t convinced and proceeds to search the grounds while Young Uhtred, Finan, Osferth, Sihtric, Ælfwynn, and Æthelstan hide. However, they come up empty handed. Uhtred arrives soon thereafter to find that everyone is safe. After evading capture, they proceed to pack their belongings and head for Ceaster. ("Episode 4.5")

Mercia; On the road to Ceaster, Stiorra tells Ælfwynn to stop crying, though she persists. Young Uhtred tells his sister to be kind as Ælfwynn simply misses her mother. Stiorra tells her to be brave and grateful that she’s not betrothed to an old man. ("Episode 4.6")

As they ride through the woods, hungry villagers rip the bread that Stiorra is eating right from her hands. They come to a stop as the road is blocked with the bodies of dead men piked on large wooden sticks. Uhtred changes the plan and they will now go across land to Wenloca to avoid the bad air. ("Episode 4.6")

St. Milburg’s Priory, Mercia; They continue on the road to Ceaster on foot. As they wait there, Uhtred tells Stiorra to get Ælfwynn out the sun, to which she complains that she’s tired of mothering her. Stiorra has done it for months and has no intentions on being a wife. Nevertheless, she takes Ælfwynn under the trees. ("Episode 4.6")

Mercia; The group rest at a river stream. Young Uhtred tells Stiorra to rest and he’ll watch over her, but she’s reluctant. While her brother may have the skills of a warrior, he does not have the heart of one. She questions why he continues to pretend as if he does. Honor thy mother and father, he replies. She tells him not to pretend just so that their father would love him and that she can protect herself. She’s taught herself many skills. She then stabs her finger and rubs her blood on a rune she created to protect them during their journey. She then throws the rune into the river. ("Episode 4.6")

The following morning, they continue their journey to Ceaster. Unfortunately, they are tracked down by Eardwulf and his guards. They find themselves in a swamp filled with dead bodies, certainly the result of the sickness. So, they are forced to fight their way out. Eardwulf demands they hand over Ælfwynn, but Uhtred refuses. Eadith saves them by revealing that her brother killed Æthelred. Later, they arrive in Wollerton; Kingdom of Mercia. ("Episode 4.6")

Aegelesburg, Mercia; While the town is distracted by King Æthelred’s funeral, Pyrlig sneaks Uhtred, Finan, Stiorra, and Æthelstan inside. Later, Stiorra helps Father Pyrlig distribute the grain among the people, but the villagers become too unmanageable and start fighting over the grain. Stiorra is thrown to the ground and Uhtred and Finan intervene. Uhtred takes control of the situation. ("Episode 4.7")

Finan, Osferth, Sihtric, and Stiorra enter the tavern. They claim to be the new Lord of Mercia’s closest advisers and demand to be served ale. All except for Stiorra, who is under age. Upset that she's being secluded, she takes Finan’s ale and chugs it. Afterward, they exit the tavern to what appears to be the guards of Wessex seizing Aegelesburg, led by Cenric. Finan orders Stiorra to hide. Later, Stiorra tells Finan and Æthelflæd to come to the front gate as Uhtred, Osferth, and Sihtric return with a fyrd. ("Episode 4.8")

Stiorra catches Young Uhtred as he prepares to leave for Wessex. Their father does not yet know. Stiorra questions why he’s leaving. He informs her of how Father Beocca gave his life to save young Uhtred, and the only way to honor his sacrifice is by serving God. Stiorra wants to come with him to Wessex so that she can do what she wishes. She simply wants to live, but he can’t take her with him. He gives her a hug goodbye and leaves. After, Uhtred, Finan, Stiorra, Osferth, and Sihtric gather at the tavern, unsure of their next move.("Episode 4.8")

Thatcham, Wessex; Uhtred, Stiorra, Eadith, Finan, Sihtric, Osferth, Æthelstan, and Pyrlig hold up in Thatcham, where they set up camp for Ælswith, who will offer prayers of thanks on their behalf when she arrives in Bedwyn. Uhtred tells Stiorra that they’ll be in Bedwyn by tomorrow. Then they will go to Coccham. Stiorra remarks that Coccham is small and she’d rather go to Winchester. The group, with the exception of Eadith, who hides behind the trees, suddenly finds themselves surrounded by Hæsten and his men. Hæsten informs Uhtred that Sigtryggr has landed from Irland and he wants all Danes to follow him. Sigtryggr and Brida have captured Winchester, where Hæsten plans to take Ælswith, Æthelstan, and Stiorra. Hæsten orders his men to tie Uhtred and his men to trees so that they may die slowly. ("Episode 4.9")

Winchester, Wessex; Ælswith, Æthelstan, and Stiorra arrive in Winchester. She tells them that the Danes will surely kill them, so she suggests that they say their prayers. However, Stiorra refuses as she’s not Christian. Once inside, they are reunited with Æthelhelm, Ælflæd, and Ælfweard, and the six of them are taken to Brida, Sigtryggr, and Eardwulf. Ælswith warns them that her son will burn them all to the ground before he concedes any of Wessex land. As Ælswith is being taken away, she claims that Stiorra and Æthelstan are Dane slaves and that if Brida values her people, she would take care of them. Brida determines that Stiorra is at least half Dane. However, Eardwulf then reveals that she’s in fact Uhtred’s daughter. Brida orders her men to find Uhtred and send him Stiorra’s head, but Sigtryggr takes refuses and takes Stiorra with him instead, while the other captives are sent to be held int eh chapel. ("Episode 4.9")

Once in the Reading Room, Stiorra breaks a class and is ready to cut her face but Sigtryggr assures her that he means her no harm in any form. He only means to speak with her. He asks about her mother, to which Stiorra replied that she was Gisela, sister of Guthred of Northumbria. Sigtryggr informs her that this means that they share the same ancestors. They continue to talk and Stiorra reveals that her fathers land in Bebbanburg was stolen but her father will see them restored. Because Stiorra is of both Saxon and Dane blood, and when one side seeks to destroy the other, he tells her that she must choose. He asks if she thinks there could be peace between Saxon and Dane to which she replies that many want there to be, its just the kings who see differently. He then asks about her father, and Stiorra explains that her father doesn’t hate Danes; her existence being a testament to that. ("Episode 4.9")

Drunk off ale, Eardwulf enters the reading room, where Stiorra sits alone. Stiorra fears that Eardwulf has come to kill her, but she tells him that’ll throw him out of favor with the Danes, which Eardwulf no longer wants. He realises now that bargaining with them was a mistake. He wants to enact his vengeance on Stiorra for her father turning Eadith against him. Stiorra tells him that he brought this on himself, so he slaps her. That's when Sigtryggr enters and disarms Eardwulf before hitting him. She then reveals to Sigtryggr that the reason Eardwulf ran from Mercia is because he killed King Æthelred. Eardwulf claimed that Alfred preferred to rule with fear which Stiorra opposes by saying that Alfred was loves and that the people of Winchester honor him even after death. Sigtryggr questions him if he prefers to rule with love or fear; to which Eardwulf replies fear. ("Episode 4.9")

Winchester has been under siege for 30 days. Stiorra remains in the Reading Room with Sigtryggr. She reads from one of the books, though she quickly grows tired of it. She tells him that she’s too hungry to read and Sigtryggr gives her the last of his bread. Brida and Hæsten enter, and Brida plans to kill a hostage; meaning Stiorra, as Edward is threatening to burn the kingdom. However, Sigtryggr won’t allow for it. Instead, he tells Hæsten to dampen the roofs with clay and water to protect it from catching fire. Sigtryggr will personally select a hostage, but not Stiorra. ("Episode 4.10")

Stiorra reunites with her father once negotiations finish. She tells him that she’s willing to go with Sigtryggr. There’s nothing for her in Coccham. Uhtred isn’t destined to be the Lord of Coccham any more than she’s meant to live a small life there. They follow where the Gods lead them, and they’re sending Stiorra to Daneland. She wishes to live amongst her mother’s people. She pleads with her father to let her go. ("Episode 4.10")

Stiorra prepares to leaves with Sigtryggr and the Danes for Eoferwic. Young Uhtred hugs Stiorra goodbye before she leaves. ("Episode 4.10")
